How to score Yahtzee without doing the math
You fill in the score sheet in Teamzy turn after turn: the sum of the dice for ones to sixes, three and four of a kind and chance, a box to check for the bonus, the full house, the straights and the Yahtzee. The total adds itself up.

Yahtzee in 30 seconds
You play with five dice. On your turn, you roll up to three times, keeping the dice you like, then you fill in one box of your column: ones to sixes at the top, the combinations at the bottom. If your roll fits no box, you cross one out for 0. After 13 turns, the sheet is full and the highest total wins.
What each box is worth
There are two kinds of boxes: those where you add up dice (ones to sixes, three and four of a kind, chance) and those worth fixed points (the full house, the straights, the Yahtzee). At the top, a 35-point bonus rewards ones to sixes that reach 63. That is exactly what Teamzy counts.

Chloé, Hugo and Nathan reach the thirteenth and last turn: each of them has one box left. Chloé already has her bonus. Hugo has 50 in ones to sixes without the fives, Nathan 54 without the threes.
- 1Chloé needs a large straight. After three rolls, she has 2, 3, 4, 5 and 5: no luck, she crosses the box out for 0.
- 2Hugo goes for fives: he needs three of them to reach 63. He only gets two, so 10: his ones to sixes make 60, no bonus.
- 3Nathan goes for threes: he needs three of them, for 9 points. He gets them on his second roll: his ones to sixes make exactly 63, and he takes the 35-point bonus.
- 4Add it all up: Chloé 271, Nathan 236, Hugo 226.
Chloé wins with 271 points. Nathan finishes ahead of Hugo thanks to the bonus: without it, he would only have 201.
In Teamzy, you type the sum of the dice or check the box, and the total follows every turn: you see who is in the lead, and the match is saved with its whole sheet, just like this one.

The questions that always come up at the table
Each box is filled in once. At the top, for ones to sixes, you add up the dice of that number: three fours make 12. At the bottom, three of a kind, four of a kind and chance score the sum of all five dice; a full house scores 25, a small straight 30, a large straight 40 and a Yahtzee 50. A box you cannot fill is crossed out for 0. At the end, you add everything up, bonus included.
63 or more in ones to sixes, and the bonus is worth 35. That is Hasbro's rule for Yahtzee (“at least 63 points”) and Schmidt's for Kniffel, its German cousin: exactly 63 is enough. The number comes from three of each: 3 + 6 + 9 + 12 + 15 + 18. In Yatzy, the Scandinavian version, the bonus is worth 50.
Official Yahtzee rules, from HasbroA small straight is 4 dice in a row (1-2-3-4, 2-3-4-5 or 3-4-5-6) and scores 30; a large straight takes all 5 dice (1-2-3-4-5 or 2-3-4-5-6) and scores 40. Under Hasbro's rules, once your large straight box is filled, another large straight can go in the small straight box. Some rule sheets, like the French Yam notice from Schmidt, call 1-2-3-4-5 the small straight and 2-3-4-5-6 the large one. The points stay 30 and 40, so in Teamzy you check the same box.
Yes, all five: the matching dice and the others. With 4, 4, 4, 2 and 6, three of a kind scores 20. That is the rule of Hasbro and of Schmidt. In Yatzy, the Scandinavian version, only the matching dice count: 12 in this example.
You cross one out: it scores 0 and is used up. Better to sacrifice a box worth little, like the ones, or a combination you have little chance of rolling. Keep chance for a bad roll: it takes any dice. In Teamzy, a crossed-out box is a 0 typed in, or a box left unchecked.
Under Hasbro's rules, each extra Yahtzee earns a 100-point bonus if your Yahtzee box already holds 50. You then score the roll in another open box: first the matching number at the top, then three or four of a kind, then chance or any combination at its usual value (25 for a full house). Schmidt's Kniffel gives 50 extra points if the matching number box is still open, otherwise the roll is a joker in the lower section. Teamzy keeps the basic sheet, without that bonus: a second Yahtzee goes in another box, four of a kind or chance for example.
375 points without any Yahtzee bonus: 105 in ones to sixes (five of each number), the 35 bonus, 30 in three of a kind, four of a kind and chance, then 25, 30, 40 and 50 for the full house, the straights and the Yahtzee. With Hasbro's 100-point bonus and a Yahtzee on each of the thirteen turns, it goes up to 1,575.
They are the same family of dice games. Yahtzee is Hasbro's version, Kniffel is Schmidt's in Germany, Yams or Yam's is the French name. Yatzy, played in Scandinavia, has 15 boxes, with one pair and two pairs. From one box to another, a few details change, like the straights or the second Yahtzee: agree on them before you roll.
