Keep score in UNO, all the way to 500
Each round, you type the points of whoever played their last card: Teamzy adds up the totals, ranks the players and ends the match as soon as someone reaches 500.

UNO in 30 seconds
UNO is played by 2 to 10 players, free-for-all, and each player gets 7 cards. On your turn, you play a card that matches the top card of the discard pile by color, number or symbol, or a Wild card; if you can't, you draw a card. Draw Two, Reverse, Skip and Wild Draw Four cards change the course of play, and when you have only one card left, you yell “UNO!”. The first player to play their last card wins the round. In Mattel's current rules, keeping score is optional: the round winner scores the cards left in the others' hands, points carry over from round to round, and the first player to reach 500 points wins the match.
What each card is worth
When a player plays their last card, the round is over. Every other player shows the cards they have left, and whoever played all their cards scores their value: a number card is worth its number (a 0 is worth 0), a Draw Two, Reverse or Skip is worth 20 points, a Wild or Wild Draw Four is worth 50 points. The others score nothing that round. Points carry over from round to round, and the first player to reach 500 points wins the match.
The points of a round
| What counts | Points |
|---|---|
| Whoever played all their cards | the others’ cards |
| Each number card | its value |
| Draw Two, Reverse, Skip | 20 |
| Wild, Wild Draw Four | 50 |
| The other players | 0 |

Léa, Hugo, Chloé and Nathan play in that order and keep score the way Mattel's rules suggest: each round, whoever plays their last card scores the others' cards. It takes them eight rounds to reach 500.
- 1Round 1: Hugo is the first to play his last card and scores 74 points. Chloé wins round 2 with 141 points, Léa round 3 with 96 and Nathan round 4 with 63.
- 2Round 5: Chloé wins again, with 152 points. She has 293 points, far ahead of Léa (96), Hugo (74) and Nathan (63).
- 3Rounds 6 and 7: Léa wins both, with 137 and then 114 points, and gets ahead of Chloé, 347 to 293.
- 4Round 8: Léa yells “UNO!” as she plays her next-to-last card, then plays her last one. Hugo has a Reverse, a 0 and an 8 left (28 points), Chloé a Wild Draw Four, a Draw Two, a 9, a 6 and a 3 (88 points), Nathan a Skip, a 9, a 7 and a 4 (40 points). Léa scores 28 + 88 + 40, which makes 156 points.
- 5Léa goes from 347 to 503 points: she is the first to reach 500, and the match ends with this round.
Léa wins with 503 points, ahead of Chloé (293), Hugo (74) and Nathan (63).
In Teamzy, when you add UNO to your games, pick “The winner takes it all” under “How you score”. Each round, you only type the points of whoever played all their cards: the others' boxes stay empty and count as 0. The app adds up the totals and ends the match as soon as someone reaches 500. It also offers the other way to score, “Everyone counts their cards”: each player writes down the value of the cards they have left, and the lowest total wins.

The questions that come up at the table
When a player plays their last card, the round is over and they score the value of the cards left in the others' hands: a number card is worth its number, a Draw Two, Reverse or Skip is worth 20 points, a Wild or Wild Draw Four is worth 50 points. Points carry over from round to round, and the first player to reach 500 points wins the match. In the example, Léa scores 156 points in the last round and ends on 503.
UNO rules from Mattel (PDF)No: in Mattel's current rules, whoever plays their last card wins the round, and keeping score is presented as an optional way to pick the winner. Older rules made it the object of the game instead. So you can play round by round, with no score. Playing to 500 makes it a real match, where holding on to a Wild card until the end can hand 50 points to someone else.
Many recent decks add four Wild cards: depending on the edition, a Wild Shuffle Hands or Wild Swap Hands card, and three Wild Customizable cards, on which you write your own rule. In Mattel's current rules, every Wild card is worth 50 points, those included. Some older rules counted them as 40 points: follow the rules in your box. In Teamzy, you type the round total, already worked out.
As soon as you have only one card left, you must yell “UNO!”. If another player says it before you do, before the next player takes their turn, you draw 2 cards. They stay in your hand: if someone else wins the round, they count toward that player's points.
Yes. You may only play a Wild Draw Four if you have no card matching the color of the top card of the discard pile (in the current rules, a Wild card in your hand counts as a match too). The player it's played on may challenge you: you show them your hand. If you had a card of that color, you draw the 4 cards and they draw none. If not, they draw 6 cards instead of 4 and lose their turn.
Not in Mattel's rules: the player hit by a Draw Two draws 2 cards and loses their turn. Many tables still play stacking, putting a Draw Two on a Draw Two to pass the draw on to the next player: it's a house rule, to agree on before you start. It doesn't change how the round is scored.
The round is won, but the next player first draws their 2 or 4 cards, and those count toward the winner's points. That's what Mattel's older rules say; the 2022 rules no longer mention it, so agree on it with your table before you start.
Yes, and Teamzy offers it too, as the “Everyone counts their cards” way to score: each round, every player writes down the value of the cards they have left, 0 for whoever played all their cards, and the lowest total wins. Mattel's older rules then ended the match when a player reached 500. In Teamzy, this way to score has no set end: to stop at 500, set 500 as the points target in the game's settings.
