Monopoly in 30 seconds
Monopoly is a Hasbro board game where 2 to 6 players play free-for-all: you move with the dice, buy properties, railroads and utilities, build houses and hotels, and collect rent. There are no points. A player who can no longer pay what they owe is bankrupt and leaves the game; the last player who is not bankrupt wins, and there can never be a tie. Because a game can last a very long time, many tables stop at an agreed time: the richest player then wins, and that is when you need to know how to count your net worth.
How a game ends, and how to count your net worth
In a full game there is nothing to count: you play until one player is left, and that player wins. If the table stops earlier, at a time agreed in advance, everyone adds up their net worth: the richest player wins. In Teamzy there is nothing to enter either way, you pick the winner, whether the game ended by bankruptcy or by a count.
What Teamzy keeps from a match
| What counts | Points |
|---|---|
| Last player not bankrupt | win |
| Bankrupt player | leaves the game |
| Tie | never |
Counting your net worth when the game stops at a set time
Each player adds up these five items. The highest total wins.
| What you own | What it is worth |
|---|---|
| Cash | its face value |
| Properties, railroads and utilities | the price printed on the board |
| Mortgaged properties | half the printed price |
| Houses | their purchase price |
| Hotels | their purchase price, including the houses turned in |
The count of the example
Another evening, same four players: the table had agreed to stop at 11 pm. Prices are those of a classic edition, as an example. Hugo has the most cash, but he is not the winner.
| Lucas | Emma | Hugo | Léa | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Cash | 820 | 450 | 1,100 | 260 |
| Properties, railroads and utilities | 1,060 | 980 | 700 | 840 |
| Mortgaged properties | 0 | 150 | 0 | 225 |
| Houses | 300 | 0 | 100 | 600 |
| Hotels | 0 | 750 | 0 | 0 |
| Total net worth | 2,180 | 2,330 | 1,900 | 1,925 |
Emma wins with a net worth of 2,330. Lucas finishes second with 2,180, Léa third with 1,925, Hugo fourth with 1,900.
A game for four, won on the last bankruptcy
Lucas, Emma, Hugo and Léa play free-for-all, the four of them. Teamzy picks who starts: Hugo. Nobody is scored on points: what matters is not going bankrupt.
- 1After two hours, Emma has built a hotel on one of her most expensive properties. The others know they cannot afford to land on it.
- 2Hugo lands on Emma's hotel. The rent is more than everything he owns: even after selling his houses back to the Bank and mortgaging his properties, he is short. He is bankrupt, hands everything over to Emma, since his debt is to her, and leaves the game.
- 3Later, Léa owes Lucas money she cannot pay. She goes bankrupt in turn, and Lucas receives her properties.
- 4Emma and Lucas are left. Lucas lands on one of Emma's hotels, cannot pay and goes bankrupt. Emma is the last player not bankrupt: the game is over.
Emma wins: she is the last player not bankrupt. There are no points, no second or third place to settle, and never a tie.
In Teamzy, on the match screen, mark Emma as the winner. The match is saved in the history with its winner, and the Monopoly leaderboard updates: Emma gets a win, Lucas, Hugo and Léa a match without a win. If your table stops at a set time, count the net worths as in the table above and pick the richest player: you choose.

The questions that come up at the table
By being the last player who is not bankrupt. A player who can no longer pay what they owe, even by selling houses and mortgaging properties, is bankrupt and leaves the game. When only one player is left, that player wins. In Teamzy, you pick that player as the winner on the match screen: the match joins the history and the leaderboard.
The classic Monopoly rulebook on Hasbro's siteNo. You do not score points: you play with money and properties, and the game is won by staying in last. That is why Teamzy has no score sheet for this game: you pick the winner at the end, and the app counts everyone's wins in the leaderboard.
If they owe money to another player, they hand over everything of value they own, then leave the game. If they owe money to the Bank, for a tax for instance, the Bank auctions their properties, except the houses and hotels. Either way, they are out of the game for good: play goes on among those who remain.
Agree on a stopping time before you start, then, when the time comes, each player counts their net worth: the richest player wins. You add up cash, properties, railroads and utilities at the price printed on the board, mortgaged properties at half that price, houses at their purchase price and hotels at their purchase price, including the houses turned in. In Teamzy, you then pick the richest player as the winner.
A house counts its purchase price: for example 150 for a house on a red or yellow property. A hotel counts its purchase price together with the four houses you turned in to the Bank to place it, that is five house prices in all. A mortgaged property counts half the price printed on the board, which is what the Bank lent you. The rent you might collect later does not count.
The rulebook does not cover this. The simplest is to decide it before you start, for example by playing on until the next rent is paid. Teamzy never records a tie at Monopoly: you pick one winner, even if your table chooses to share first place.
Yes, older rulebooks offered a short game that stopped at the second bankruptcy: the net worth of the remaining players is then counted as in the table above. Teamzy does not depend on any of these rules: however it ends, you pick the winner.
With Teamzy: save each Monopoly match with its players and its winner. The game sheet and the leaderboard show the mates who win most, with their number of wins and their win rate, and each mate's sheet traces their matches.
